Description

The “War of the Axe,” also known as the Seventh Frontier War, was a conflict between the British colonists and the Xhosa people in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, spanning from 1846 to 1847. The war’s name originates from an incident in 1846 where a Xhosa man was arrested for stealing an axe, and an attempt to release him by other Xhosa led to the outbreak of the war.
