Refund and Returns Policy

At Hemingways Bookshop, we are passionate about the unique character and history of every book we sell. As our collection consists of second-hand, rare, and collectable items, each book has its own story and level of wear. We do our utmost to provide accurate descriptions and clear photographs to represent each book’s condition honestly.
Your satisfaction is important to us, and we stand by the quality of our descriptions. Please read our policy carefully to understand the process for returns.
When You Can Request a Return
We will gladly accept a return for a full refund or store credit under the following circumstances:

Item Not as Described: If the book you receive is substantially different from its description or photos on our website (e.g., listed as “Very Good” but has significant water damage, or a signed copy is not signed).

Incorrect Item Received: If we have made an error and sent you the wrong book.

Damaged in Transit: If the book arrives damaged due to shipping. Please take photos of the packaging and the book’s damage immediately.
We cannot accept returns for reasons of “change of mind” or if you find the book cheaper elsewhere after purchase. The unique nature of second-hand items makes such returns unfeasible.
How to Initiate a Return
To request a return, you must contact us within 7 days of receiving your order.

In your email, please include:

Your full name and order number.

The title of the book(s) you wish to return.

A clear reason for the return (e.g., “Not as Described,” “Damaged in Transit”).

Photographic evidence. For claims of damage or misdescription, photos are required to help us assess your request quickly.

Please wait for our confirmation and return authorisation before shipping the book back to us.
Refunds and Processing
Once your return is authorised, we will provide you with instructions for sending the book back.

Return Shipping Costs: If the return is due to an error on our part (incorrect item or not as described), Hemingways Bookshop will cover the cost of return shipping.

Inspection: Upon receiving the returned item, we will inspect it to ensure it is in the same condition as when it was sent to you.

Processing Your Refund: Once the return is approved, we will process your refund to your original method of payment or issue store credit, as you prefer. Please allow 5-10 business days for the refund to reflect in your account. The original shipping fee will also be refunded if the error was ours.
Selling Books to Us
Please note that all sales of books from you to Hemingways Bookshop are considered final once the transaction is complete.
