History of the South African Mutual Life Assurance Society, 1845-1925 (Inscribed by Secretary of the Society)

Founded in 1845 by John Fairbairn in Cape Town, the South African Mutual Life Assurance Society (later Old Mutual) was the first mutual insurer in South Africa, established to provide reliable financial security. Over its first 80 years, it transitioned from a local Cape initiative into a regional powerhouse, formalizing its name in 1885, incorporating early, and expanding into Namibia by 1920.
